The Wasdell Group invests in Serialisation

The Wasdell Group invests £2.6 million in Serialisation

EU regulations (EU Directive 2011/62/EU on falsified medicines) require that from February 2019 there be a unique 2D Datamatrix code and human readable data on every saleable unit of drug product intended for release to a patient. In line with these regulations the Wasdell Group will provide this service to ‘Track and Trace’ the individual pack through the entire supply chain. These measures are being put in place to minimise the opportunity of counterfeit products entering the market.

The Wasdell Group is committed to supporting its customers with these requirements and will have this capability up and running by the 1st Quarter of 2017 at both of its packaging facilities – Wasdell Packaging and Wasdell North. Our contract packaging customers will need to make the following carton artwork changes to allow us to support them in adhering to these new regulations:

  • Varnish free area on all cartons
  • Clear panel to be left on the carton for 2D Datamatrix code and human readable data

These two changes will enable the barcode to be scanned easily (Grade B or above), reducing product returns, saving time by avoiding costly reprints and guaranteeing compliance with industry requirements.
Initially this new directive applies to Pharmaceutical companies only but we believe that the Healthcare & Nutritional Industries will follow within 6 years.

As the deadline for implementation looms ever closer, our proactive approach towards the new regulations will allow for minimal disruption, greatly improving products speed to market.
